Dell Releases New EqualLogic Data Centers

In keeping with the 'tradition' on the data center market, Dell released a whole collection of hardware products, as well as accompanying software solutions for virtualization and cloud infrastructure.

Dell's EqualLogic product line saw new blood today, in the shape of the EqualLogic PS4100 Series and the EqualLogic PS6100 Series.

The former is intended for small-to-medium businesses, as well as remote office locations, while the latter is geared towards mid-sized customers that want virtualization and, thus, have growing storage demands.

They all support 2.5-inch storage units (for high data density) and, thus, can gather up to 36 TB and 72 TB in a single group, respectively.

This leads to maximum capacities of 72 TB in a single group of EqualLogic PS4100 Series machines, and 1.2 PB in a group of EqualLogic PS6100 Series.

"Organizations of all sizes continue to place a priority on boosting IT asset efficiency while improving IT responsiveness to business pressures. Ever greater exploitation of virtualization is a key element in these efforts, and the deployment of flexible and intelligent storage systems is frequently the key to successful efforts," said Richard Villars, vice president of storage and IT Strategies at IDC.

"Dell's continued investment in advanced yet cost effective storage solutions along with a continued expansion of its enterprise service and solutions organization, puts the company in a strong position to help IT organizations get the most from their data centers, today, and in the future."

What Dell also prepared is the EqualLogic FS750 NAS (network-attached storage) device, featuring the Dell Scalable File System (offers cache monitoring, multi-threading and load balancing, among other things, for fast I/O processing).

“The new EqualLogic capabilities mark a significant next step in the evolution of the Dell Fluid Data architecture and extend Dell’s leadership in virtualized IP-based storage solutions that are easy to manage,” said Darren Thomas, vice president and general manager, Dell Enterprise Storage.

“The new storage arrays and virtualization tools can help our customers run highly optimized and efficient data centers by automating configuration and improving performance without forcing forklift upgrades.”
